Tips on How to color your hair at home

A surprising number of women color their hair on a regular basis, with many teens as well experimenting with hair color, dye, and highlights. Some ladies prefer to spent $40 or $50 at a salon for a professional touch. Others spend $5 or $6 at the drugstore and do the job themselves at home.
If you are in the latter group or are considering doing your own hair color in the future, here are a few recommended guidelines:

1. Carefully read all of the instructions first. These will be found on the external package in general form and on the inside directions in greater detail. If you don't understand some of the terms or explanations, call the toll-free number to speak with a hair color consultant. Directions often are posted in Spanish, too, and sometimes in French or German.

2. Conduct all preliminary tests as outlined. This includes a sample strand test, typically, which asks you to color a small strand of hair before applying all the product to your head to see how the color takes and how it compares with your natural color. If the strand doesn't hold the tint, or if it clashes with your complexion, you may want to consider other shades. The second test requires a sample spot of color on the inside of your elbow for 48 hours, checking for redness, itching, or burning or other possible allergy or sensitivity symptoms. If the color sample becomes irritated or develops a rash, don't use this product and contact the company for a refund.

3. Prepare your hair beforehand. Wash your hair at least 12 to 24 hours before you plan to color. Applying the product any sooner than that does not give your scalp enough time to produce adequate oil for protection during the coloring process. Avoid creating a buildup of styling gel or other products that may interfere with the coloring application. Don't over brush it or get a permanent near the time you plan to color your hair.

4. Apply the tint thoroughly, work it in completely, and remove promptly in the designated amount of time, usually 20 to 45 minutes. Be sure to apply the color evenly, not overlooking the ends of your hair or the nape of your neck. You may want to comb it through for uniformity, as opposed to relying on your gloved hands, which can feel awkward. Cover with the provided plastic cap to supply gentle heat that can enhance the coloring process.

5. Remove the product by rinsing thoroughly until the water runs clear. Then add the packet of conditioner (some products may include this within the color solution) and rinse again, finally drying and combing your hair as usual. As it dries, check the color for evenness of application and uniformity of the shade.

You may want to have a friend help you apply the color. Or you may decide that it's easier to visit a salon for this treatment. When you decide which route to go, plan on reapplying color every four to six weeks, depending on how fast your hair grows.

Colouring Your Hair At Home

Have you made a mistake in the past? If so, you are not alone.

It is easier and cheaper to color your hair at home, but there is also room for lots of mistakes to be made. If this is the route you choose, be sure to follow the steps in this how-to. They are all extremely important. Be sure to choose a color that is compatible with your skin tones. If you have warm skin tones, you should consider red, gold or auburn tones. Stay away from ash tones. They won't suit your coloring.
Be sure to check the color on the box, not the model's hair color. There is usually a guideline on the side that will give you some indication of the resulting color.
Read instructions at least two times. There are lots of room for error. And don't forget the strand test. That's important as well.
Wear the gloves. They are added to the kit for your protection. If you are touching up the roots, be sure that this is the area that you target. You shouldn't be applying the color to the entire head as in the first application.
Use a kitchen timer to keep track of the time. It is very easy to forget when you are thumbing through a magazine.
Be sure to rinse thoroughly. The instructions say to rinse until the water runs clear.
Condition your hair with the product provided. Your hair needs all the help it can get at this point. It is going to be very vulnerable to damage.
Do not perm or straighten your hair for several weeks after coloring. If you find yourself with a color that you didn't expect, DON'T rush out and choose another hair color and repeat the process. Call the help line for assistance. If that doesn't fix the mistake, head for a salon. They will be able to correct the color with the least amount of damage.

5 Hair Care Best Practices for Preventing Hair Loss and Promoting Hair Growth

If you regularly wash your hair, style it with products or brush, you could potentially be damaging your hair or even hindering it's ability to grow. But with some advice you could make some minor changes to your hair care regime to change it from one that hinders hair growth to one that boosts hair growth. Follow these simple tips to help make sure you're helping, not hindering your hair on a daily basis -- in time it all adds up.
  1. If you use gels, wash them out
If you use hair gels, waxes, clays or any other sticky styling products you need to wash them out before you go to bed. When you sleep with your head firmly pressed against the pillow, styling products can work their way into your scalp and clog the pores. Styling products usually contain an array of chemicals that won't do newly developing hairs any good. Make sure you wash them out before bed to avoid this, or don't using sticky styling products altogether.
  2. Avoid shampoos sold in supermarkets
All the common high street brand shampoos contain chemicals that you wouldn't want to put on your skin every day, if you knew what they were. Have a look at the ingredients list on the back of your shampoo. You'll most likely see the chemical "sodium laurl sulphate", or some variation on that name. Even the top brands like Head and Shoulders, Pantene, Original Source and Herbal Essences contain this chemical and many others. With everyday use it's thought that this can damage your hair and even poison your body.
  3. Avoid tightly tying your hair back
Tying your hair back tightly pulls the hairs and gradually trains them to grow nearer to the surface of the scalp. Eventually they may grow so close to the surface that they lose their hold in the skin and fall out. The hairs at the front of your head are most likely to be the victims of this pulling and they are also the most vulnerable to the effects of hormonal hair loss.
  4. Avoid brushing your hair when it's wet
Your hair is more vulnerable to damage when it's wet. It's best to dry your hair with a soft towel and then leave it to dry naturally. Your hair will dry faster if you don't brush it as it will have a greater surface area exposed to the air. If you use leave-in conditioners don't rub them into the scalp. If you get a lot of split ends you should get your hair trimmed regularly, otherwise the splits will get longer and longer leaving your hair looking frizzy and horrible.
  5. Stimulate hair growth by brushing your scalp
When you brush your hair, use a hard bristled hair brush with plenty of space between the bristles. Make sure your hair is completely dry and vigorously brush your scalp, scratching the skin. Don't scratch so hard that it hurts but do scrape fairly hard. And don't do this if you have a dry, flaky or sore scalp. The action of scraping the scalp will help exfoliate but most importantly it will stimulate increased blood circulation in the scalp, which will bring nutrients to the hairs helping increase hair growth.

Conclusion

Most people wash and style there hair very frequently, so even if you are doing something slightly wrong, in time it will have a noticeable effect. However if you make sure you're doing everything right, plus using some simple tricks to help stimulate hair growth, in time you will see positive results.

How to Revitalize your Natural Hair Color

A man or woman may ask: It is possible to learn how to revitalize my natural hair color? The answer is a resounding "yes"! There are several ways a person can make their natural color look fuller and more intense so that all of its natural beauty is showcased. Specialized hair products are designed to restore natural hair color that has faded or to add the luster back to hair that has become dull.

Many people have spent years having their hair colored, highlighted and permed. After a while the hair can become dull and dry due to exposure to chemicals. It’s good to give your hair a rest, so to speak, and let your natural color shine. Revitalizing natural hair color can be done using products which strip the hair of chemicals weighting down the hair. It may be necessary to first color the hair as close to the natural color as possible. By restoring the natural color, your hair will be shinier and bouncier.

Even if you have never colored your hair, time and aging can cause hair to become dull looking. Hair cells produce less pigment which means the hair turns into a lighter color. Eventually the hair will go gray. Hair care products with a violet base will eliminate the dullness associated with gray hair. They can also add shine and luster so that you can be gray with style.
Of course, some people never color their hair and don’t have gray hair, yet need to revitalize their natural hair color. In some cases, the condition of the hair is affecting the color. Hair that is severely damaged due to sun exposure or has dulled due to medical conditions can be restored using a pH balanced shampoo and conditioner that restores luster and hair shaft flexibility. These products can bring out the hair pigment color by moisturizing and conditioning the hair so it looks healthy and full.

Flat Irons Buying Guide

Flat irons are used by professionals to give hair styles a smooth look. Hair is placed between two heated plates and the flat iron is drawn slowly along the length of the hair, warming it and sealing in moisture. This results in sleek, shiny hair – movie star hair.
How do you choose the best flat iron for your needs? For years the only available flat irons had metal plates that heated unevenly and gave women dried out hair that would break, leaving them with split ends. Products to repair the damage from these flat irons are a part of hair care women thought they would need to purchase forever. Deep conditioning treatments, some that leave hair limp and lifeless.
Today's flat irons are far different from those metal nightmares of the recent past. Thanks to leaps in technology we can enjoy soft, sleek and smooth hair from these hair tools. Split ends? No way! Good quality flat irons no longer have plain metal plates and are actually beneficial to hair. For instance, with the introduction of ceramic plates, infared heat sealed in moisture, reducing the need for any greasy conditioning treatments.
Flat Irons Buying Guide
When searching for the perfect flat iron, consider the following aspects before making any purchase:

Plates:
Plates come in differing widths. A wide plate smooths more hair at one time, while a narrow plate is versatile in styling. Plates with narrow, rounded edges can be used to flatten hair, style flips, or even to create springy curls. Some professional stylists use a flat iron in place of curling irons.

Material:
Flat irons are still available with metal plates. These plates do not heat evenly, may grab hair and perform poorly overall. New high quality models use ceramic plates or ceramic/tourmaline plates. These plates heat gently and do not burn hair. They seal the hair follicle, stop moisture loss and are responsible for that movie star look.
*Tourmaline is a semiprecious stone. It is ground into a fine powder and ceramic is impregnated with the powder. Tourmaline creates negative ions and this technology reduces frizz. Professionals and women styling at home praise the results.

Handle:
There are two handle types on flat irons, much like curling irons. A Marcel handle is used by professionals. The handle is squeezed in the hand to create pressure that holds the hair in place. A spring handle creates its' own pressure. Either handle style is appropriate for home use.

Heating:
For the best results, look for a flat iron that heats to 400 degrees F. This heat setting gives the best results and a style that will last all day. If you have fine hair, choose a lower setting.
Quality:
Discount products will give you discount results. Look for a quality product made by a reputable company, like the Karmin G3 Salon Pro. When you purchase a flat iron, use one that professional’s use- it will last you for years and provide the best results for a far longer period of time. It is far more economical to purchase an iron every 5 to 10 years over purchasing cheaply made irons annually.
In a nutshell, look for the best possible product and avoid metal plates in any flat iron. Never buy a flat iron with just one setting, even ceramic can overheat fine hair. Look for rounded edges on flat iron plates for more versatility – square edges may cause a crimp in the hair. Crimped hair went out of style years ago! Buy professional quality and expect professional results for years to come. For an extra boost to your style, consider a tourmaline impregnated ceramic style, though this is not a requirement.

Hair Treatment using Keratin

Keratin hair treatments promise smooth, straight hair that remains sleek and curl-free for several months. The treatment, which is available in many hair salons, can take up to an hour, and is often a costly process. Hailing from Brazil, this process provides a double treatment by fortifying the hair through the use of keratin, a natural protein, and then altering the structure of the hair with chemicals in order to make it remain straight. There are risks to consider with many versions of the treatment, and customers should be fully aware of the process and possible effects before choosing to have it done.

Keratin is a basic protein found in the bodies of mammals; it is usually present in hair, wool, horns, and nails. Since the salon treatment is known for straightening, it is often assumed that keratin is related to straight hair, but this is incorrect. During keratin treatments, a solution is applied that infuses the hair with keratin, repairing damage and flaws within the hair. Keratin is responsible for increased shine and reduced frizz, but does not directly straighten the hair itself.
After the keratin solution is applied, a cocktail of chemicals is added to the hair that creates the straightened effect by semi-permanently altering the hair's structure. Often, the main component in this cocktail is formaldehyde This dangerous chemical is responsible for much of the controversy surrounding keratin treatments, as some experts believe exposure to formaldehyde increases the risk of certain cancers. In some salons, customers and clinicians may even don filtered-air masks during the process. Typically, hair is then flat-ironed to lock in the new look.
Results of keratin hair treatments vary between users; some find that the process works as described and keeps hair straight for several months, while others are less satisfied with the result. Many are also concerned about the exposure to dangerous chemicals, leading to the creation of several newer versions of the treatment that do not use formaldehyde. Those with an objection to animal-based products may also want to find out the source of the keratin used in the treatment, as it may be animal-based.

Keratin hair treatments are available at many salons throughout the world, and some may offer promotional discounts when a new version of the treatment arrives. Ask to see before-and-after photographs of customers who have undergone the treatment, and do not be afraid to inquire about the chemicals used and available safety precautions. A treatment that changes hair for several months may be a big risk for some customers, but for those permanently struggling with frizzy hair that refuses to straighten through other means, keratin hair treatments may provide a long-lasting alternative.

Growing your hair faster

Unfortunately hair does not come with an operating manual or help files.  Healthy hair will give you the fastest hair growth, so read through the following to ensure that your present practices are hair healthy!

SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER INFORMATION
1.         Shampoo at least every day or at least every other day.  This will help to remove dandruff, and oils to allow your hair to grow healthy.
2.         Use a gentle ph balanced shampoo which will help to maintain a healthy look and a healthy shine to your hair.
3.         Do not vigorously towel dry your hair.  When your hair is wet it is in its most fragile condition and by treating your hair roughly you may be prematurely pulling out and breaking hair.
4.         Unless you have strong coarse hair, try to avoid using dandruff shampoos as some may have a very high ph that can damage hair.  There are healthier ways to treat dandruff problems.
5.         Conditioners are a must in this day and age of permanents, hair coloring, hair blowers, and curling irons.  Conditioners while they won’t fix the problems created by these appliances will coat the hair shaft making your hair more manageable.
6.         Remember to rinse your hair well, hair that is not rinsed well will appear dull and not healthy and could result in a dry irritated scalp.
7.         Using harsh shampoos, bleaching, coloring or perm solutions can cause itching and scratching no matter how much hair you have.  If you think you are having a reaction to your shampoo, change immediately and if you are still experiencing difficulty then visit a dermatologist for a specially formulated shampoo.

HAIR CARE INFORMATION FOR YOUR TYPE OF HAIR
8.         If you have dry hair wash regularly using a very mild shampoo and plenty of conditioner, make sure you shampoo twice, the first time removes the hair products, oil and dirt from your scalp; the second washing needs very little shampoo and prepares the cuticle of your hair to receive the conditioner.
If you are able to withstand it, rinse with cold water as this is a good way to stimulate your scalp.
Try to towel dry your hair as much as possible using a blotting motion before using a hair dryer and do not dry your hair totally dry with a hair dryer as it will add to your dryness.
Have your hair trimmed regularly to avoid split ends.  If your scalp is also very dry, massage it regularly with a few drops of walnut or almond oil.
9.         If you have oily hair, wash it regularly using a gentle shampoo but don’t massage your scalp vigorously as this will only stimulate the oil glands to produce more oil.
Use a very soft brush or comb and use them as little as possible.
Never use a powder or dry shampoo as they will only clog your hair roots.
Use lemon juice or vinegar in your rinse water as a more natural method of controlling the oil in your hair.
10.     For normal hair, treat it well using ph balanced shampoos and conditioners and dry it gently using a hair dryer as little as possible.

HAIR STYLING INFORMATION
11.     Your hair will be more easily managed and look healthier if you get a good hair cut every 2 to 3 months.  Keeping your hair trimmed often will remove split and frayed ends and make your hair appear healthier.
12.     Have your hair cut into a style that accentuates the way your hair naturally wants to lay.  That way you won’t have to use unnecessary hair products and vigorous combing to create a style that your hair will struggle against.
13.     Try to get a hair cut that is not dependent on having to blow dry your hair into a specific style.  It is much healthier for your hair to allow it to air dry after using a blotting motion with a towel.

HAIR PERM & COLORING INFORMATION
14.     Avoid permanents if possible.  At the bare minimum permanents can leave you with hair that is easily damaged, your hair can loose some of its natural shine, split ends may be more frequent and at the worst, hair breakage can occur.
15.       While permanents can add body to fine limp hair, it is this hair that also can be the easiest to damage. To minimize the effects of a permanent, go to a hair dresser that is experienced in how strong the solution should be for your type of hair, watches carefully to ensure that the solution is not left on too long before the neutralizer is applied
16.     Try not to color your hair.  Hair coloring uses very strong chemicals that can easily damage your hair resulting in split ends, hair breakage, loss of sheen and an inflamed scalp.
17.     If you wish to color your hair, talk to your hair stylist about processes that have less of an impact on your hair and scalp.
18.     Try not to color your hair too often as this can damage your hair, consult with a trained professional to determine how often based on your hair condition.
19.     Mild hair loss can be caused by a poor diet, or mistreating your hair through over perming and coloring which can make your hair more susceptible to thinning.

GENERAL HAIR CARE INFORMATION
20.     Never brush or vigorously comb your hair when wet.
21.     Over time the use of hair dryers and curling irons dry the hair and like coloring can result in the same types of damage.
22.     Over exposure to environmental factors such as chemicals in the air too much sun and can result in damaging the ends of your hair so frequent trimming every few months will remove the frayed ends.
23.     Water with a high mineral content can leave the hair looking lifeless, likewise spending too much time in chlorinated pools or chemically treated hot tubs can affect not only the sheen of the hair but in those with fine hair can create breakage in the hair.  In these conditions make sure you use rain water, softened water along with a low ph shampoo and conditioner.
24.     The hair that borders your forehead and temples is fragile.  It is important to treat this area as gentle as possible.
25.     Remember the old “axiom” of brush your hair 100 strokes before you go to bed each night.  Well old axiom it is……do not over brush…you shouldn’t have to brush any more than
15 times or less especially if your hair breaks easily.

YOU AND YOUR HAIR STYLIST!
26.     Don’t feel intimidated by your hair dresser and get talked into expensive time consuming products before first determining exactly what is causing your thinning.  Most hair dressers want to work with you and ensure that you are pleased with their service.
      27.     Remember your hair stylist can become a partner in finding a solution and help
you find a style that will enhance your thinning hair.

Fixing Frizzy and Dry Hair

It is often hard to manage frizzy hair and those who have such horrible hair conditions are also not able to find a suitable hairstyle that can make them attractive. Frizzy and dry hair can take a lot of time to be dressed when you have a special occasion to go for. It is at such a situation that a ceramic hair dryer works efficiently in changing the texture of the hair to shiny smooth locks that are manageable and lovely in nature.
Using a straightener is considered as the professional method of styling the hair. By learning the proper way of styling the hair with a styling rod, you can easily do the job at your home itself without visiting hair salons. You will not have to spend on hair extensions either. You can convert the natural texture you are born with and come with a new changeover that looks natural and gorgeous. Hair styling with styling tools have also enabled us to create different styles with a single device. You can get dramatic hairstyles within a few seconds which makes such styling tools the best option for busy career women who can style their home quickly every morning for their office. However, it all lies in the type of hair iron you shop for. You may be cheated on low quality hair iron if you can't distinguish real and fake ones easily. A professional ceramic tourmaline model is what you should be looking for to acquire straight and lovely waves without damaging your hair.
Prices of styling tools may change according to the type of hair straightener you are using. A ceramic and tourmaline hair iron cost more than metal stylers. Price may also depend upon the new innovative features added to your hair iron. You can also relax your hair using a good blow dryer if you do not want to use flat irons. But you may not get that perfect straight hair with it. For perfectly styled hair, hair straighteners with ceramic plates and variable heat setting would be ideal choice. Such straightening rods can straighten even frizzy and dry hair without damaging it further.

Tips on How to Keep Your Hair Healthy

Who doesn’t want neat, lustrous and tangle-free hair! However, with today's pace, it's very difficult to keep our hair healthy. Having said this, it just takes a few minutes of the day to actually nourish our hair! Just 5-10 minutes of healthy hair regime and we will end up having much healthier hair. Here are few steps that I find really easy and effective:

1.  Every night brush you hair neatly before going to sleep. You can tie your hair if it's very long. Brush gently, compartmentalizing your hair and finishing each neatly. Now brush all together. You will be amazed to see how easy it gets.

2.  In the morning before taking a shower brush the hair and make it tangle free. Apply dabs of fresh lime juice with cotton in your scalp. (This is particularly helpful for people with dandruff).

3.  Wet your hair, dilute the shampoo with a little water and apply the shampoo softly. You can apply it twice if necessary.

4.  When applying shampoo or conditioner, don't use your fingernails to scrape through your hair. Instead, use your palm and fingertips to massage your scalp and hair gently, in circular motions. This will help the circulation and also help to keep your hair shiny and smooth.

5.  Rinse your hair to make it completely soap free.

6.  Apply conditioner and leave it for 5 minutes or so. Rinse off. Instead of conditioner you can have the last rinse with a cup of beer or vinegar. Your hair will look lustrous and beautiful.

7.  Hair serum is a wonderful way to make your hair shiny and silky. Once your hair is dry you can apply serum through the length of the strands.

If you follow these simple steps regularly, I am sure you will have enviable hair you can be proud of.

Tips & Warnings

Apply mashed banana or egg to make your soft and supple

Moisturise your hair. You can go for a hot oil treatment once in a week.

Eat healthy and drink sufficiently, for what we eat reflects on our hair

After swimming in a pool, shampoo your hair as soon as possible to remove any chlorine residue. Chlorine is extremely   damaging to the hair and scalp.

Never go to bed in wet hair. Hair that is half wet is most easily broken, and if you sleep during this time, your individual hairs will be rubbing against each other, damaging them in the most terrible way.

Do not overdo. Eliminate stress or else it can be disastrous to your precious hair!

Get enough sleep. Sleeping well is essential for the health of your hair, as well as for the rest of your body.

If you have split ends or rough hair with dandruff, try to wear it short until you develop healthy hair. You can always grow it back.

Too much of synthetic products spoils your hair. So be careful while choosing you products.

Avoid applying hair creams, lotions, styling gels and sprays directly on the scalp as they will clog your hair follicles. Use a light hold spray if you must. Make sure to remove all the styling products during the wash. The residues are harmful for hair.

Make a proper hair care kit consisting of proper hair brushes, mild shampoos, hair serum, mild conditioner, fresh lime juice/ vinegar/ yogurt/banana, beer/ tea liquor etc.

Lastly, love and pamper your hair just as you love yourself. Self motivation can do wonders.

 Good luck!

Coloring Your Hair Do's and Dont's

Hair coloring is an excellent and almost safest way to change your appearance and therefore to change the other persons attitude. Hair coloring may transform you from the modest, classical type of woman into bright red pretty girl. And when you'll get tired you can easily get back that romantic charm of natural blonde or ash-grey shades. Anyway, hair coloring helps you to become more attractive. There are lots of coloring stuff to achieve the result.

1. Temporary colorants

It can give your hair new look and color but not for a long time. It is made by putting a thin layer of a colorant on your hair. The effect of such action is not very harmful. But coloring dark hair with temporary colorants has almost no effect on them. The better result you can achieve when the hair is light colored. Most vivid are temporary colorants of red and blue color spectrum.

2. Semi-permanent colorants

These contain oxidizer in a sparse distribution and therefore they are more permanent then temporary colorants. Such colorants wash out after about ten to twenty shampoos. The color change during this time goes little by little and is almost unnoticeable, with no grown roots. Such hair coloring gives to the natural color its shine and richness or brightens it up with new fresh colors.

3. Permanent colorants

The universal colorants that can give you any effect you need. They content strong oxidizers which have negative effect on the health of your hair. They are used to achieve strong firm color when coloring grey hair or just for slightly lightening. In all other cases more merciful colorants are used.

4. Lightening

Lightening means are used for slight (3-5 levels and more) dark hair discoloring before using the lightest colorants. They really ruin your natural hair structure. After the use you should wash your head with special emollient shampoos and balms or some kind of intensive hair cure means.

When using temporary and semi-permanent colorants you do not start from your roots but place it all over your head at a time. After that the hair must be kept warm and covered with some kind of polyethylene cap. How long you should you should do it depends on the manufacturer. After you have finished the remains of colorant must be washed up. If the coloration process is serious and you have used permanent colorants you ought to proceed with balms and rinses. The whole process when using temporary colorants should take not more than half an hour, when using semi permanent resources - about 20 minutes and you should wait to complete the permanent coloration for 45 minutes or about so.

It is very actual when changing hair color from dark to light one. But of course sudden color change is not so hard as it seems when the hair is in professional hairdresser or stylist's hands. However hair does loose a lot of its pigment. Only healthy strong hair can stand this procedure easily. Remember, you should avoid sudden color changes and let it handle only to professionals.

As you can see the technical part of the process is not very hard. It is much harder to achieve the hair color that which would go to your eyes, skin, the way you look, your lifestyle. Actually your hair color must be the basement of your unique style

Tips:
If your skin is covered with freckles you should not experiment with deep blonde or brunette colors. It gives the best fit only to young girls with clean skin. The only emphasize face defects if you are older.
If your skin turns red regardless of situation you should avoid red colors in you hair cut (like burgundy, mahogany, red wine)
If your skin color is of a cold shade you should choose colors like ash-grey blond, red wine, mahogany, umber, black.

How to Clean Your Curling Iron

One of the most commonly used hair styling tool is the curling iron. Women around the world use curling irons to create long curls, short curls, waves, and to straighten their hair. Most women who use a curling iron use it every day of the year, and on some days they use it several times. After all of this use most curling irons end up covered in burnt on hair spray, styling gel, and other compounds that can’t be identified. If your curling iron is dirty you don’t have to throw it away. There are several cleaning methods that you can use to clean the gunk from the barrel.
Prevention is Your Best Option
The best way to prevent serious gunk built up on your curling iron is to clean your curling iron after each use. The two best daily cleaners for your curling iron are alcohol wipes or rubbing alcohol on a cloth. To clean your curling iron, unplug it and allow it to cool. When it is cool to the touch use an alcohol wipe, or a cloth moistened with rubbing alcohol, to wipe down the barrel of your curling iron. This will remove hair spray, styling gel, and other debris that has adhered to your iron during this use.
Baking Soda Paste
If it has been a while since you have cleaned your curling iron, and it has developed a crust of hair spray, hair, and mystery compounds, then you need something a bit stronger than an alcohol rub to clean it. If you have baking soda in your pantry then you can create a paste using baking powder and a little water. Mix with your fingers or a spoon. If it is too thick then add a little more water. The paste should be thick, but spreadable. To clean your curling iron using this cleaner unplug your iron, make sure that it is cool to the touch, and then rub the baking soda past on the barrel. Allow the baking soda to do most of the work for you. To see if the paste is working simply wipe an area of the barrel clean and see how it looks. If the gunk is still there apply a little more paste and continue to rub it gently. To clean the paste off use a damp rag to wipe off all of the paste.
Oven Cleaner
If you have tried everything else and your curling iron is still looking gross then you may need to resort to using oven cleaner. Unplug the curling iron and make sure that it is cool to the touch. Wrap the cord and plastic handle of the curling iron in a rag to protect it from corrosion. Then place the iron on a surface that won’t be affected by the oven cleaner. Spray the barrel with the oven cleaner and let it stand for 15 to 20 minutes, or until you can see that the residue on your curling iron has bubbled off. Wipe off the curling iron with a damp cloth making sure that all of the oven cleaner has been removed.

How to Blow Dry Your Hair Straight

One of the hottest hair styling trends in the U.S. today is super straight and shiny hair. To get this hair style you can either go to a salon, or you can use your blow dryer and a brush. The steps and products that you use to straighten your hair with a blow dryer will depend on what type of hair you have.
Step 1 – Clean and Condition Your Hair
Before you straighten your hair you will need to wash it and condition like you normally would. Make sure that you use a shampoo and condition that is designed for the type of hair that you have. This will wash out styling product residues from your hair and make straightening your hair easier. After your hair is clean you will want to towel dry your hair about half way. Your hair should still be damp, but not wet.
Step 2 – Apply Heat Protection Products
Because your hair is going to be subjected to high heats to straighten it you need to apply a product to your hair to protect your hair follicles from heat damage. There are several spray in products like spray in conditioners that you can use to protect your hair. Or, if you straighten your hair a lot, then you may want to pick up a salon product.
You may also want to use a straightening balm if you have extra curly or coarse hair. This product can be found at most beauty supply stores and department stores.
Step 3 – Select the Right Tools
To straighten your hair with a blow dryer you will need three things. First you will need a hair dryer. Next you will need a large, round brush. The third item is optional, but it makes things a lot easier, and it is a hair dryer stand. The hair dryer stand will free up your hands for manipulating your hair and the hair brush. (You may also want to use a large hair clip to keep sections of your hair contained while you are working with other strands).
Step 4 – Straightening Your Hair
To start with turn on your hair dry and position it so that it is forcing most of its air directly at the strand of hair that you are working with. Then select a strand of hair to straighten. Roll the brush’s barrel under the selected hair strand and roll it down starting from the roots and go all the way to the tip. Make sure that the heat is applied directly to the top section of your hair as you brush it from the underside. Move the completed strand out of the way and then move on to your next section of hair. Some strands of hair may take more than one pass to straighten completely. Try not to over-dry your hair

Using Flat Iron to Straighten your Hair

If you plan on attending a special event or if you are planning an evening out on the town then you may want to try a new hair style. One of the latest trends for night time hair styles is straight and sexy. If you have curly or wavy hair and you would like to straighten your hair then all you need are the right tools and a little time.
Step 1 – Select the Right Tools for the Job
There are several tools that you need to straighten your hair with a flat iron. The first tool is a quality flat iron. The best flat irons will have ceramic plates. Some of the top flat irons on the market are the Sedu Ionic Ceramic Professional Straightening, the ERGO Hair Straightening Iron, and the T3 Hair Straightening Iron. These irons are high end tools and they each cost around $150.
Other tools that you will need to straighten your hair using a straightening iron include hair clips and a hair brush.
Step 2 – Select the Right Hair Care Products
Because straightening your hair uses heat and pressure you need several hair care products to protect your hair follicles from damage. First you will need a shampoo and a conditioner that is designed for the type of hair that you have. Next you will want to use a heat protection product. Finally, if you plan on straightening your hair a lot then you will also want to periodically use an intensive treatment product to repair damage to your hair.
Step 3 – Wash, Condition, and Dry Your Hair
Before you straighten your hair you will want to make sure that you wash and condition your hair. This will set the stage for a beautiful hair style. The conditioner will also help to protect your hair from heat damage. You may also want to consider using a shampoo and conditioner that is designed for people who use to heat to style their hair. Finally, you will want to dry your hair completely before you use your flat iron.
Step 4 – Prepare Your Hair for the Iron
Before you start to straighten your hair you need to prepare your hair for the process. Start by adding the heat protection product to your hair. Then brush your hair out. Finally, use your hair clips to separate your hair into equal sections and layers.
Step 5 – Straighten Your Hair
Now that you are ready to straighten your hair you will want to plug in your flat iron and move all of your supplies near the iron. When the flat iron has heated up, select a section of hair to work with. Clamp on the flat iron near the root of your hair and apply pressure as you pull it down the strand of hair. When a strand has been straightened, you can move it to the side and move on to the next strand. Continue until you have straightened all of your hair. You may need to enlist the help of a friend to straighten the back of your hair, especially if this is the first time that you tried to straighten your hair.

Hair colors 2011

2011 will see some interesting hair colors applied to women's hairs and this year, it seems, funky is in. Coloring your strands is probably the fastest way ever to update your looks. Also it's much cheaper than shopping for new clothes accessories. With different hair colors everyone will notice you and many will even try to imitate your style!
So here are some of the best hair color ideas for 2011 for the modern women of today.
Vegetable colors
Vegetable colors are allowed to only contain vegetable extracts in order to create the composition. It is something like henna, however the materials are different. If you want to use such colors but don't want to leave them in forever, you can easily use these as they are fading away after about eight shampoo sessions.
Skin tones
Skin tones are perfect to compliment any skin type. For example if you are light sensitive, a dark hair style simply doesn't go so well with your type. Also a nicely tanned skin will go perfectly with chestnut or various honey tones. Always check that the color you are applying to your hair actually matches your skin tone, and you're good to go.
Red tones
Red is in again and it's quite easy to achieve that red hair look. As a matter of fact, for 2010 it was the most requested hair color type, based on the feedback of various hair stylists. It is a very sexy shade, one that commands attention right away.
Black tones
Easiest of all colors to achieve simply because the molecules in black are larger than that of other colors, so no matter your original color, black will stick to it quite nicely and for a long time. Black usually gives a quite mysterious and enigmatic look to the face that is so appealing to many.
Blond tones
Blond is usually the most difficult color to achieve, particularly if you've already had some permanent colors applied to your hair before. Especially affected by this is trying to apply very light blond tones. The reason is because strong heat as well as direct sunlight will adversely affect it by make it fade quite fast. One way to go about it is by adding at first darker shades that stick and then going lighter a few treatments later. And most of all avoid strong bleaches as they usually destroy the hair cuticles and follicles quite fast and you'll have a hard time trying to first restore your mane to its original health

Winter 2010 - 2011 Hairstyles Trends

Winter 2010 - 2011 Hairstyles Trends – Bone Straight Hair

2011 Hairstyles
Image Source: 2011 Hairstyles - PR Photos
It seemed like big voluminous beachy waves were essentially the beauty version of the boyfriend jean when it came to hair trends, but today’s designers are moving away from this trend. What do fashion designers have to do with beauty trends you ask? You will find that when you see runway collections highlighted through fashion week or high fashion profiles, that the beauty side of collection trends is always very carefully calculated. Fashion designers today are very careful...and selective...about what they want their models to look like, and the beauty portion of any fashion collection plays just as much a role in the show as the clothes themselves. While Hollywood starlets are great at inspiring beauty trends, they too get their inspiration from the runways themselves. So what is going on with hair this Winter 2010-2011?

If you have been spending the summer enjoying the low maintenance that comes with tousled air dried waves from the beach, you will want to clock a little more time in the a.m. to achieve this look...unless you are blessed with naturally straight hair. Hair guru to the runway collections, Ted Gibson, has found that more Fall runways than not have seen bone straight hair, and he achieved this look when working the runways himself for J Mendel and Vena Cava Fall 2010 shows.

Smooth and straight hair will complement any look, and you want the silky shiny look that comes with bone straight hair.

To get this 2011 Hairstyles look, you will use your flat iron a little differently. Create a center part on washed hair and blow dry using the upside down method. Rather than going with small, finer sections to iron, Gibson says put as much as you can in the iron if you want a voluptuous look.

You also want to pin sections on top, flat iron your bottom sections first, and then let your top layers fall down. The more hair you iron at once, the more voluminous your mane will be, and it will also shave some precious getting ready time off in the morning.

Hair Straighteners

There are many different ways to create the sleek, shiny look of pin straight hair. Here is a review of the top ten methods of straightening hair, in no particular order.
  1. Shampoo and Conditioner: There are many shampoos and conditioners on the market today to help encourage your hair to straighten, but most need to be used in conjunction with another product. Be sure to look for products that can help protect your hair from the heat of blow drying or ironing, and choose a very good conditioner.
  2. Silicone Serum: Adding a touch of silicone serum will give your hair extra shine, but be careful, as a little bit goes a long way.
  3. Blow Dry Straight: Blowing drying is an effective way to straighten your hair, but it must be used with a protective product and you should use a weekly conditioning treatment to keep your hair healthy. Remember that heat is not as important as a good strong air flow.
  4. Ion Conditioning Blow Dryers: A new concept in blow drying hair, these blow dryers send negative ions to the hair, replacing moisture and protecting the hair, while also cutting down drying time.
  5. Straightening balm: Usually used in conjunction with blow drying or ironing, a straightening balm can help cut down on frizz, especially in humid weather, and protect dry hair.
  6. Chemical Straighteners: Chemical straighteners should always be applied by a professional, as everyone’s hair is different. The good news is that chemical straighteners can keep the hair straight for up to six months, but the hair needs a great deal of conditioning, blow dryers should be used sparingly, and adding color could damage the hair.
  7. Thermal Reconditioning: This new procedure, which was developed in Japan, is a permanent way to straighten hair, and is good for all types of hair. The downside is that it takes a very long time and can be very expensive.
Finally, we’ll take a look at three different kinds of straightening irons:
Titanium Hair Straighteners
Ceramic Hair Straighteners
Steam Hair Straighteners
  1. Ceramic Hair Straighteners: Hair irons that have ceramic plates have extremely smooth surfaces, usually have no edges that will catch the hair, and heat up very quickly, in around thirty seconds.
  2. Titanium Hair Straighteners: Hair irons with titanium plates infuse the hair with negative ions which help protect the hair and helps prevent colored hair from fading.
  3. Steam Hair Straighteners: Steam is an effective way to straighten hair, but beware of badly made products that will eventually break down or cause hot water to spill on you as you iron your hair.
